In 1993, Catoma started by manufacturing tents for Wilderness Firefighters. These folks hike and parachute deep into remote areas to put out wildland fires. They needed a lightweight tent that was durable and quick to set-up and take-down. Many of the people who saw the tents asked if there was a consumer version available, so Catoma set out to make versions for everyone's backpacking and camping needs.
